GVL grand final day labelled a success after record-breaking finals series

For the first time since 2019, Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve came to life for the Goulburn Valley League’s biggest stage to cap a record-breaking finals series.

More than 4700 people watched on as Echuca bested Euroa in arguably one of the best senior football grand finals in recent history and Seymour completed a clean sweep of the senior netball.

Crowds were back in full force, with a large contingent of Seymour supporters coming up to cheer their three netball sides on, while more than 1000 Echuca fans made their voices heard across six grand final matches.

League operations manager Jo Spencer said the crowd numbers had never been higher in a GVL finals series.

She said the gate takings were more than $60,000 and would be shared with all 12 league clubs.

“All revenues and fees paid at the gates is evenly split among the 12 clubs, and we make sure the clubs are financially stable for the following years ahead, which is important,” Spencer said.

She said the league couldn’t have asked for a better day and thanked everyone who was involved.

“It was terrific, I think everyone missed finals since 2019 and we are happy Mother Nature turned it on,” Spencer said.
