Junior games will start from 1.30pm with the A-grade netball is set to begin at 5.30pm, ahead of the senior football clash at 6.05pm.
Before the senior football, The Ode, The Last Post and Reveille will be conducted, with support from the Mathoura RSL Sub-branch.
While the Cutters are coming off some tough losses on the football field, including against the Berrigan Saints last week, Mathoura senior coach Adam Bourke said they will be driven by the occasion tomorrow.
“Berrigan are a very good side; their results over the last two weeks show that.
“I thought we were competitive for the majority of the game, but our usage of the ball was pretty poor across the ground.
“We would have had 70 or more turnovers, which means effectively you’re giving it straight back to the opposition when you get the ball and saying ‘here you go to them’.
“At senior level, it makes it really hard to defend, and they’ll put pressure on you through the scoreboard.
“We did have good passages and linkages, but we couldn’t combine that into forward 50 opportunities.”
Bourke said the significance of Anzac Day was not lost on Mathoura.
“It is a really big day not just for the club but for Australia as a whole. It is a really big stage for the club and the whole community.
“A lot of players and community members have had grandparents and great-grandparents who served, particularly in WWI and WWII, as soldiers and nurses.
“It is such a big day and that’s why we’re hosting a local derby with Picola.
“Unfortunately, we’re going to be down a few players due to some of the injuries we’ve sustained. But that doesn’t mean we’re not going to go out there and try and win.”
“Picola are a very good side, and have been in elimination finals the last two years.
“In terms of play, we need to win enough of it and then from there use it a bit better.”
Bourke said some additions to the side may make a difference this weekend.
“We welcome back Jaydan ‘Spud’ Turner after missing the first two games; he should give us a bit more in the midfield.
“It will also give blokes like Mitch Worsnop the chance to continue where he left off with a couple great games at the end of last season.
“We’ll be really looking towards guys like him to stand up, and it is important our young local core of players rise to the occasion.
“We also have had good tackle pressure from Max Elder, and Nick Dolan also brings that competitiveness around the contest.
“We’re also lucky enough to welcome a couple of Tiwi Islander blokes, so we aim to welcome them in well.”
Mathoura has designed limited edition Anzac Day jumpers for the seniors and reserves footballers to wear, which will be auctioned off after the game.
“The club and committee have put in a great effort with this. The jumpers are perfect, and the design has come up really well.
“We will auction these off so players, supporters and community members can purchase the game worn Anzac Day jumpers - to have something of their own at home for the sports bar or memorabilia cabinet from the Mathoura Anzac Day game.”
