The experienced midfielder finished runner-up to Mulwala’s Will Cookson in the Murray Football League best-and-fairest count by just two votes, adding to a fourth-placed finish last year to solidify his status as one of the league’s premier players.
But for Squire, he’s simply happy to be stringing together some consistent football.
“Coming off a few injuries the last couple of years… it's good to be on the park and playing consistent footy,” Squire said.
“It’s not been a bad year individually, but at the end of the day if I get a medal around the neck at 5pm Saturday, that's all that matters.”
The 31-year-old is set to play in his fifth senior grand final, hopeful of adding to a premiership cabinet that includes the 2014 GVL flag with the Shepparton Swans and the Roads famous 2024 victory against Finley.
It’s a time on the football calendar that he’ll never tire of.
“You don’t get sick of playing this time of year so you don't take it for granted,” Squire said.
“I think the best thing about our side it could be anyone in the 22 of us to make an impact.
“It doesn't matter if it's someone in midfield, someone in the back line like a Jonah Vraca, or a ‘Wiz’ (Kyle Mueller) up forward, Charlie Mellington can bob up and kick goals.
“We don't rely on anyone; it can be anyone on the day, and I'm backing our boys to get the job done.”
Squire has been involved in some fierce battles with the Cobram midfield in recent times, and he’s not tipping that to change at Moama this weekend.
“They've got a quality midfield - that’s their strength,” he said.
“They've got some really good players in there, and over the past three or four years it's been a really big rivalry.
“There’s been a few close games, and they’ve probably had the wood over us a couple of times.”
