The side were the beneficiaries of a La Trobe forfeit last weekend, giving the Wanderers a three-nil win.
Wanderer’s goalkeeper Matt Crothers said while it was disappointing not to play, the team took the positive result.
“We had a week off (due to the La Trobe forfeit) which was unfortunate, but we got the three points.
“We also tried to hold a bit of an open day on Sunday and a few of us went down, but the rain on Sunday kept everyone away and made it too hard to run an official session.”
The Wanderers’ opposition, Castlemaine Gold, are undefeated this season, with two wins and two draws so far.
But they are only one point ahead of Deni on the ladder.
Being at home should give the Wanderers an advantage, but Crothers said it will be a stern test for the team.
“We’re always hopeful,” he said.
“They’ve had some decent results this season so far. They’re definitely the top Castlemaine side, and came in as a late entry.
“Next week we play the other, Castlemaine Green.
“It should be interesting. Hopefully, we get this win, but it will be a test.
“If we can win, we might be able to finish fourth and play finals, which would be good.
“We’ll put our best foot forward, and playing at home gives us a chance at that. But we’ll probably be missing John Haig and Brad Scroop, out with pre-arranged commitments.
“The extra week off has been good for some of us with an advanced age because it gives us that bit of extra time to recover.”
