Donald Edwin Warriner grew up in Gympie and at Kabunga West. He fondly remembered his time at Brisbane Boys’ College, where he participated in swimming, rugby, gymnastics, boxing, rowing and cadets. He successfully acquired a cadetship at Stewarts and Lloyds in Newcastle, where he met and married his lifelong partner, Sona in August 1960. He went on to managerial positions at Caltex, and later Clark Equipment, before acquiring Prices Marine in Cairns in 1972. While in Cairns, he established Warriner’s Earthmoving in 1975, which later merged with Double H Transport in Brisbane and eventually Earthquip.
Don lived life to the fullest. Speed. Racing cars or boats, was his passion. He successfully competed in the Sydney-to-Newcastle and Pacific 1000 offshore powerboat races, and later in car rallies across Australia and the UK. He was tough, loved to laugh, have a scotch and watch football or Bathurst. Sinatra's My Way was a favourite song. He is survived by his brother Ken, his children David and Susan, and his grandchildren Kathleen, Nathan and Hamish. The family will celebrate his life in a private gathering.
