History comes alive at Toganmain

Set in the heart of the Riverina, the iconic Toganmain Woolshed invites visitors to a full day of history, culture and celebration on Saturday, September 12.

Located on the Sturt Highway near Carrathool, NSW, the heritage site will open its gates for both an Open Day and the Cocktails in the Yard evening event. The day begins with the Open Day from 10am to 3pm, featuring shed tours, market stalls, historical displays, food and refreshments for all ages.

As the sun sets, the precinct transforms for Cocktails in the Yard, an 18+ event featuring cocktails, finger food and live music inside the woolshed by Velvet Sessions.

Built in 1875, the Toganmain Woolshed is the largest surviving woolshed in the Riverina and a living monument to Australia’s pastoral heritage. It holds the Australian record for shearing more than 202,000 sheep in a single month. In 1887, it was also the site where mechanical shearing machines were first successfully demonstrated in an operating woolshed.

Now listed on the NSW State Heritage Register, Toganmain continues to preserve and share its extraordinary story with every visitor who walks through its wooden frame. At this special event, visitors can step into one of Australia’s most fascinating rural landmarks and explore the woolshed in operation.

Open Day tickets are $20 for adults and $50 for a family pass, which includes two adults and children. Cocktails in the Yard tickets are $100 per adult and include two complimentary cocktails, food, entertainment and Open Day entry.

Adding to the excitement is the community raffle. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased online at TryBooking or on the day.

First prize is a framed Toganmain photograph by Julie Clarke, featuring a frame crafted from timber from the original sheepyards. Other prizes include an IO Merino Fusion wool/cotton tracksuit set made from eqwools, and the Shear Delights Cookbook, kindly donated by Carolyn Rees. Winners will be drawn during the evening.
