With your winter woollies at hand, there’s no reasons why you can’t still enjoy the outdoors.
While your instincts might be to keep a brisk pace to keep from feeling the chill too much, we recommend you slow down just a little to ensure you take in our breathtaking scenery in full effect.
Following are a few suggestions on how to spend your winter days in our region.
Edward River & Beach to Beach Walk:
Stretching along the Edward River, Deniliquin’s Beach to Beach Walk offers a tranquil journey through river red gums and bushland.
Linking McLean Beach and Willoughby’s Beach, the trail invites visitors to stroll, cycle or unwind beside the water, soaking up wildlife, scenic views and the relaxed charm.
The Beach to Beach Walk is busiest on Saturday mornings, because of the McLean Beach Parkun.
It’s a free, timed 5km walk or run, with all abilities welcome.
The McLean Beach Parkrun starts at 8am from the start of the Beach to Beach walk, at the end of the McLean Beach car park.
Newcomers and visitors are always welcome. To register for your barcode, go to www.parkrun.com.au/register.

Waring Gardens and Lagoon Trail:
Winding gently through Deniliquin’s lagoon system, the Lagoon Trail offers a peaceful escape just moments from the town centre.
This easy walk showcases wetlands, birdlife and leafy parklands, making it ideal for all ages.
In winter, crisp air and quiet surrounds create a refreshing, scenic experience in the heart of the Riverina.
The trail runs from Deniliquin’s east to west, passing right through the heart of the Deniliquin CBD.
The lagoons are maintained by Edward River Council and the Deniliquin Kolety Lagoons Landcare Group, with assistance from Deniliquin High students and other partner agencies.

Murray Valley National Park:
In winter, the Murray Valley National Park reveals a quieter, more magical side.
Towering river red gums, crisp air and soft light create perfect conditions for bushwalking and cycling through peaceful forest trails.
Wetlands brim with birdlife, while the stillness invites visitors to slow down and reconnect with nature.
It’s an ideal season to explore this iconic landscape at a relaxed, unhurried pace.
For those who love to sleep in the great outdoors, the park has a number of formal campgrounds.
These include the Gulpa and Millewa campgrounds near Mathoura, the Noorong-Wetuppa campgrounds beside the Wakool River, and Willoughby’s Beach campground at Deniliquin.
Campsite booking fees apply. Go to www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/murray-valley-national-park to book, or for active alerts which may impact access to the park.
