Fine fashion on display at races

By Daniel Hughes

Sunshine, warm weather and the chance to back a winner helped draw crowds to
the Berrigan Racecourse for the sixth annual Finley Autumn Cup on Saturday.

About 400 people streamed through the gates for the casual race meeting with plenty
dressing to impress and enjoying the social afternoon.

A growing event on both the Berrigan and Finley calendars, the Finley Autumn Cup
attracted patrons from Melbourne, South Australia and Tasmania.

Albury trainer Andrew Dale has now gone back-to-back after winning the coveted Finley Cup, with jockey Blaike McDougall on the back of four year-old Gelding, Suburbia.

Ideal weather conditions set the scene for those participating the Fashions on the Field event

Light winds did threaten to blow off fascinators and hats, but clear skies and warm weather still encouraged entrants to turn up in droves.

The contestants brought their A-game, putting together ensembles of floral hats and head accessories, elegant dresses and two piece outfits with high heals and footwear to match any runway model.

The men donned a collection of fashion forward options or risky Hawaiian shirts, custom made floral suits, brave colours and bow ties.

Judges on the day for Fashions on the Field were Jenny Philpot and Janelle Russell.

Fashions on the Field winners were:

Little Racegoers - Ben Ferguson and Ava Vodusek.

Young Racegoer - Ruby Russell.

Lady of the Day - Jacqui O’Bryan.

Couple of the Day - Macie Close and Jesse McDonald.
