These woman are also being asked to participate in a research project on the subject.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District clinical leader perinatal health Keryl de Haan said while the arrival of a new baby is usually a happy event, it can also be a stressful time when many adjustments have to be made.
The new research project, aimed at improving access to treatment for women with post-natal depression in regional areas, will be conducted locally by MLHD, Charles Sturt University and Parent infant Research Institute.
“Up to 15 percent of new mothers suffer from postnatal depression and we know isolated women, those women in rural and remote areas, can have difficulty accessing support and help,” she said.
“We want women to sign up so they not only receive the support they need, but to help us discover what the barriers are for isolated women in accessing the intervention.”
The research involves doing some questionnaires, accessing six personalised online sessions and an interview with one of the researchers. Those who participate are reimbursed for their time.
