Running from 10am to 2pm at the station in George St, there will be a free barbecue, giveaways and a chance to speak with the firefighters.
You may want to ask them about your fire alarms, winter fire safety, or even how to become a firefighter now or in the future.
The local brigade is always looking for firefighters, and it’s the perfect time to learn more about the role.
As always the fire trucks and other equipment will be on display, which is always a favourite with the young ones and quite a few adults too.
10 minute health check
“Don’t hesitate to give 10 minutes of your busy day to get free basic health screening. It could save your life.”
That is the message from the ‘mherv’ team, who travel town to town with the support of Rotary to offer free basic health checks.
The ‘mherv’ van will be visiting Deniliquin on May 17 and 18, where a registered nurse will take your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar levels, and have a general quick chat about your health.
Project leader Adrian Payne says in the past five years alone it is estimated that more than 450 lives have been saved because of these checks.
“While men are our key target, as we don’t want them dropping dead in the paddock, ladies are also welcome,” he said.
Rotary kindly acknowledges the support of the NSW Department of Health and Electrodry in making this free service possible.
The ‘mherv’ van will be parked outside the Multi Arts Centre in Cressy St, Deniliquin during its visit, and will see patients from 9.30am to 3.3pm on Friday, May 17, and 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday, May 18.
Further information is available on our website www.mherv.com.au.
Get your free guide
While we’re talking about health ... have you got your copy of the Deniliquin and District Health Services Information Guide yet?
The 76-page guide ensures you have all the health information you need at your fingertips.
Available for free, it’s a handy guide to have at home and at work.
The Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee and Deniliquin Pastoral Times partnered to develop the guide, and worked collaboratively on compiling all the information over two years.
Thanks to funding from Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network, Murrumbidgee Local Health District and Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group, 3000 copies are available for free within the community.
They can be collected from Deniliquin Hospital, both Deniliquin pharmacies, the Edward River Library and the Deniliquin Pastoral Times office.
Impressive landmark snap
Whether you’re a local or a visitor to town, there’s plenty of amazing landmarks and natural elements that appeal to the artistic eye.
The amazing sunsets and sunrises have been a particular favourite of keen photographers of late.
But for Dakota Mckenzie, it was one of Deni’s oldest buildings that caught her eye this week.
She could not help but stop for a snap of the impressive Deniliquin Court House on one of her early morning walks, lit up in the dark before the sun rose.
Construction of the court house, which is in Poictiers St, started in 1883.
