NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has started installing wayfinding signage and bollards along the trail.
The new 12 kilometre trail network, which is rated as intermediate, is expected to attract riders of all levels and abilities and provide the region with a valuable land-based experience to appeal to the growing adventure tourism market.
Edward River Council Mayor Norm Brennan said while there are already several cycling trails across the Edward River region, the new trail network caters for an entirely new market and will appeal to beginners, as well as more experienced and skilled riders looking to step things up a notch.
‘‘Structured around the existing kangaroo tracks throughout the Murray Valley Regional Park, the trail winds through the forest’s iconic red gums and showcases the beauty of the area.
‘‘With travellers seeking new and different experiences and mountain biking continuing to grow in popularity, adventure tourism presents a lot of opportunities for Deniliquin and the Edward River region to tap into.
‘‘Our region may be better known for fishing, boating and water sports, but it offers plenty of land-based experiences, and with mountain bikes available for hire, free of charge, from the Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre, everyone can enjoy the new trail.’’
The trail has already earned rave reviews from the nation’s fastest growing adventure community, We Are Explorers, whose website showcases the best adventurous experiences from across Australia and New Zealand. The trail will be officially launched on Thursday, April 11..
