The project, delivered by Mitchell Shire Council in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, will see a new hard-wired light pole overlooking the recently constructed Wallis St raised crossing.
A new pedestrian crossing has also recently been constructed in Station St.
To power the light pole, an electrical connection from the Tallarook St power pole will be required.
Day works are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 19 and be completed by Friday, August 21.
Workers will be on site between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.
To allow the safe completion of these works, a number of temporary traffic management measures will be in place.
During the assembly of the pole and electrical connection phase of the works, Wallis St’s northbound lane and Tallarook St’s eastbound lane may be closed.
This is likely to occur during Wednesday and Thursday for periods of up to three to four hours between 9am and 3pm.
During the lane closures, detours will be in place and shuttle flow for the roundabout movements will be managed by traffic controllers.
Council is encouraging drivers to allow extra travel time for their journeys and follow instructions from traffic controllers and signage.
Access to homes, businesses and surrounding streets will be maintained, although short delays may occur.
The footpath at the Wallis St/Tallarook St corner may be closed to pedestrians at certain times during the construction works; however, customers and patrons for local businesses can be escorted under traffic control.
Works will mostly be undertaken behind the ‘back of kerb’ on the corner of Wallis St and Tallarook St to minimise lengthy impacts to local traffic.
