Police were patrolling at about 11.45am on Wednesday when they spotted the man, who police say was known to be subject to an outstanding warrant, in Whitelock St.
The man was arrested, and in a subsequent search police are alleged to have found a small amount of cannabis.
He was charged on the warrant and possession of a prohibited drug, and is expected to appear in Deniliquin Court.
Thieves target parked cars
Three separate cars at one Deniliquin property were rifled through last week.
Police said all three cars were left unlocked outside the Sloane St home, between 9.30am on February 3 and 6.30am on February 4.
Police said it appears nothing was taken, but said it serves as another reminder to lock up and reduce opportunistic crime.
