Part of the campaign included a successful membership drive on Saturday morning, in the heart of the Deniliquin CBD, to connect with the local community.
Led by secretary Nichole Genoff and membership and youth director Cheryl McMillan, a number of Rotarians volunteered their time throughout the morning to speak with passers-by about Rotary and the opportunities it offers to get involved in community service and volunteering.
To create a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere, the members handed out pre-loved children’s books and Rotary cookies, which proved popular with both young and old.
Rotary president Iain Goodway said it was a great opportunity to showcase the club in a relaxed and approachable way.
“It was a fun and rewarding morning. We had some really positive conversations with people who were interested in learning more about what we do and how they can be part of it,” he said.
The initiative resulted in the recruitment of a new Friend of Rotary – community volunteers who assist the club without becoming full members - with others taking application forms.
There were also several expressions of interest from potential future Rotary members.
Many Rotarians dropped in throughout the morning to lend their support.
The Rotary Club of Deniliquin has dinner meetings on the first and third Monday of each month at the Deniliquin RSL Club, and more informal meetings on alternate weeks.
Visitors are always welcome, and anyone interested in finding out more about Rotary or becoming involved in community projects is encouraged to attend.
