Held before Anzac Day this year, on Friday, April 23, special guests were invited to join the school to pay tribute.
The outdoor ceremony was organised by teacher Megan Hunter and presented by school captains Ned Campbell and Lotus Gallpen-Brown.
Other Year 6 students were involved in the program, with Lisa Huckstadt giving an acknowledgment of country and Rupert Maslen giving the address.
A second address was delivered by Angela Thomas of the Deniliquin RSL Sub-branch.
The school said she gave “an insightful and thought provoking speech capturing the essence of the ANZAC Diggers”.
Maddi Hunter offered a personal reflection about what Anzac Day means to her, based on her experiences attending a dawn service on the HMAS Cerberus.
She was there as a guest of her uncle, who is in the Royal Australian Navy.
Charlie Eastman read an excerpt from the poem ’A Tribute to Anzac Day’ before Enzo Craig and Hugh Hovenden were invited to lay the wreaths.
Connor Sampson recited the Ode and James Massingham gave an explanation of The Last Post.
Later in the ceremony, resident trumpet player and teacher Claire Wing delivered The Last Post and Reveille, which staff said always “adds to the emotion of the day”.
Other special guests at the ceremony were Richard Davies and Barb Davis from Legacy.
They were presented with a $150 donation raised by the school last term.
They were grateful for the help it will give families that come under the Legacy banner.
