And the keen interest was not just from the punters.
There were so many entries from horse trainers, the five race card was expanded to six at the ‘eleventh hour’.
The Deniliquin RSL Diggers Cup headlined the card, with patrons gathering trackside for the singing of the Australian national anthem before the feature race - a moment that added ceremony and significance to the day’s proceedings.
The atmosphere remained upbeat throughout the afternoon, with families, racegoers and veterans enjoying a relaxed but meaningful Anzac Day tradition.
Fashions on the Field drew a large and enthusiastic turnout, with racegoers embracing the autumn theme in a colourful display that added to the social energy of the meeting.
There was a high standard across all categories, reflecting the effort patrons put into the day.
The Deniliquin Racing Club secretary Colin McMahon said the committee was thrilled with the turnout and the smooth running of the meeting.
“The club received lots of positive feedback from patrons, and from the trainers and jockeys,” he said.
“Some said it was one of the best tracks they’ve raced on.
“Everyone enjoyed the day, and obviously the weather helped.
“We estimate there were 750 people there, and that we drew a strong crowd from out of town.”
President Sam Hall said the club’s ongoing improvement program had ensured the course was in excellent condition.
He thanked the club’s volunteers for their commitment and acknowledged the vital support of the Deniliquin RSL Club and other sponsors.
As well as the action on the track, entertainment on offer including live music and kids activities.
The TAB facilities and bookmakers were kept busy with local and metropolitan betting, and football fans were also catered for, with the Collingwood and Essendon Anzac Day clash broadcast live on the big screen.
Many punters took advantage of the marquee packages, including the Peppercorn marquee which again proved popular.
After the last race, the action continued at the track with the traditional game of two-up, which relocated to the Deniliquin RSL Club and continued well after the racecourse gates closed on another fantastic meet.
