After a huge dawn service at the Deniliquin cenotaph, locals and visitors came out in force again for the mid-morning ceremony.
Defence personnel and emergency services led the procession, behind the drum line and followed by school children, representatives of local organisations and families.
Edward River Council Mayor Ashley Hall formally welcomed attendees before handing over to Deniliquin RSL Sub‑Branch president Steve Fawns, who led the ceremony.
The service featured strong involvement from local youth, with Deniliquin High School captains Samara Watson and Baxter Cowley delivering the prayers.
Guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Frank Marchetti, a Deniliquin‑born veteran with 34 years of service, delivered the commemoration address.
Music played a central role in the ceremony.
The Edward River Concert Band and Sing Australia performed the hymn ‘O God, Our Help in Ages Past’, followed by the Australian and New Zealand national anthems.
‘The Last Post’, sounded by David Bathgate, brought the crowd to stillness before a minute’s silence was observed.
The Ode and ‘Reveille’ then followed, marking the emotional heart of the service.
Wreath‑laying formed the final part of the ceremony, with schools, service organisations, emergency services, community groups and families stepping forward to place tributes at the cenotaph.
The strong turnout reflected the community’s ongoing commitment to remembrance and its respect for both past and present service personnel.
