Low river levels continue to make fishing around Deniliquin a little tricky, with many anglers reporting slow sessions and fish holding tight to deeper pockets of water.
Despite the tougher conditions, a few locals have still managed to find success on the Edward, particularly working structure and shaded banks.
The good news for the long term is that recent surveys of Colombo Creek and Billabong Creek have shown healthy native fish populations, including strong numbers of small‑bodied species and encouraging signs for Murray cod and golden perch.
It’s a reminder that even when the river is low, the system is still in good shape beneath the surface.
