Authority chair Daryl Quinlivan announced that Andrew McConville would continue as chief executive of the MDBA as the organisation worked to deliver the Basin Plan Review.
“The board acknowledges Mr McConville’s strong leadership over the last four years and during this pivotal period for the organisation, reviewing the basin plan and shaping the future direction of water management in the basin,” he said.
Other appointments and renewed terms include Dr Jane Doolan as a part-time member for four years and professor Stuart Bunn as an acting part-time member for 12 months.
The MDBA board provides expert advice aimed at balancing the needs of the environment, communities, First Nations peoples, and industries in the management of basin water resources.
The reappointed members join five other current board members: Mr Quinlivan, Roseanne Healy, Allison Mudford, Belinda Duarte and Rene Woods.
Mr McConville said he was delighted to continue leading the authority.
“The next 18 months are important for the basin, and I’m absolutely committed to working with communities and governments as we work to deliver the Basin Plan Review and continue our river operations,” he said.
The MDBA is also seeking new members to join the Basin Community Committee, which provides independent advice to the MDBA and the Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council on water management issues.
Mr McConville said it was vital the committee reflected diverse perspectives and experiences from across the basin.
“We are looking for people who are engaged with their community and have a genuine interest in water resource, environmental, cultural and socio-economic matters relevant to the basin,” he said.
“We are in an important phase of reviewing the basin plan and although the public consultation process has closed, the Basin Community Committee continues to engage with the MDBA on policy reform and achieving a more outcomes-focused basin plan into the next decade.”
New tenures and reappointments will begin in April 2027 for a three-year term, and nominations will undergo an extensive selection process involving all basin governments.
