Armchair experts are renowned for giving advice about subjects which they think they understand, but have no ‘real-world’ experience in.
As my children were growing up, they found it very difficult to believe that I could have ever experienced some of the same situations as them. (How could I have ever been a kid?)
My wife had her children convinced that she had eyes in the back of her head and an ability to know what was going on without even needing to investigate!
Prior experience is invaluable in understanding and assessing a situation.
Quite a few years ago, Bette Midler had a hit song, From A Distance.
The lyrics of the song appear to describe a God who is prepared to observe human life from a distance-but not become involved.
The Bible, on the other hand, describes a God who is fully involved with human life.
Not only is God interested in our lives, but because He is the Creator of life, has a full understanding of what our lives involve.
God was not prepared to be an ‘observer’ of His Creation, but instead came amongst us in the form of His Son, born as a human being - as one of us.
This Son, Jesus Christ, lived as a perfect human, and through His death and resurrection, became the perfect mediator between us and God.
Because Jesus ‘knows’, we are able to trust Him.
