RACV has released the results of the My Country Road Survey, which asked Victorians to vote on which regional highway was the worst of the worst.
For the north-east region, the Murray Valley Hwy was consistently ranked one of the worst, including the sections of Cobram to Yarrawonga, Corryong to Tallangatta and Wodonga to Tallangatta.
State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has urged the Roads and Road Safety Minister to take urgent action to repair all damaged sections of the Murray Valley Hwy.
Ms Lovell spoke in parliament and noted that the Murray Valley Hwy was among the worst-rated roads in RACV’s analysis of AusRAP data which identified 52 dangerous highway sections in Victoria.
The Murray Valley Hwy is a key conduit through Ms Lovell’s electorate for freight vehicles and tourists visiting the Murray, and road repairs are vital for the safety of motorists and truckers transporting goods.
Ms Lovell said Victorians deserved smooth and safe roads when travelling through the regions, but sections of the Murray Valley Hwy had been left damaged for years and were putting drivers’ lives in danger.
“Despite announcing so-called ‘road repair blitzes’ in the last two budgets, the Allan Labor Government has failed to significantly improve the state of the regional road network,” Ms Lovell said.
“The minister must act immediately to repair all damaged sections of the Murray Valley Highway.”
