The Rhinos will need to chase down 255 to win their Murray Valley Cricket Association Premier Grade round 13 game.
Deni had a strong start to day one, holding Katty 5/104 at tea.
However a 105 run sixth wicket partnership between James Tierney (71) and Sam Dorsey (58), as well as some extra runs from the tail-enders gave the Rhinos something real to chase.
Despite a tough run chase ahead having already lost opening batsman Dean Edge (one) late on the first day, Arthur believes his batting line up can get the job done.
‘‘It will come down to the mental toughness and shot making decisions will play a key factor in the chase,’’ he said.
‘‘We have so much depth to our batting side, we can virtually bat right down to number 11.
‘‘We need to be patient, and bat for as long as they did, if we lose wickets we need to consolidate and make sure of our next wicket.
‘‘Two day games are all about partnerships; I know if we bat the full 80 overs we can come away with a win.’’
The Rhinos have this season enjoyed some consistent performances with the bat and will look to their in-form players to do a lot of damage on Saturday.
‘‘(Brodie) Bennett is in great form after last week and (Andrew) Hogan is one of the best batsman in the league,’’ Arthur said.
‘‘We’d love Boddie (Arthur) and Mandus (Venter) to stay in and put up a solid start, see out their opening pair and get some runs on the board.
‘‘Ash (Germano) has flawless technique with the bat and hopefully can stay in form while Mick Barnett, who had an excellent first innings with the gloves and put up 30 runs in our previous match, will hopefully continue to make runs this weekend.’’
Arthur isn’t worried about the dent in the side's batting line up with opening run-maker and captain Brad Todd missing due to a minor injury.
‘‘It came down to the question, do you miss this game and play on and potentially miss the finals if things worsen, or do you miss one game now to rest and recover for the finals later? We chose to rest him,’’ he said.
The Rhinos will pick up the bat where they left off at 1/15 off six at Memorial Park tomorrow.
Boddie (11 not out) and Venter (two not out) will seek to string together a partnership to give the home side every chance of chasing down the big total.
