The women faced league leader Mooroopna, with the River Rats coming off back-to-back wins over Shepparton Strikers, but up against a side it had previously lost to this season.
Echuca Moama was unable to improve on the outcome of that round two meeting —when it lost 3-2 — going down 3-1 on this occasion.
As a result, the side is now three wins off Mooroopna in second on the ladder, having won two and lost two to start the season.
Meanwhile, the men’s side was winless entering a clash against Goulburn Valley Grammar School, its opponent also coming into the match without a victory from its first four fixtures.
The similar records of the two sides was reflected in the final result, neither able to walk away with a first win, as they drew 2-2.
Echuca Moama, GVGS and Mooroopna are the only three sides yet to win in the men’s competition this season, though the River Rats sit fifth on the seven-team ladder by having a marginally better goal difference than their winless counterparts.
Both junior sides were in action earlier on the day, with the under-16s playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Shepparton Christian College-Mooroopna, while the under-13s lost for the second time this season, going down 2-1 to Benalla Hockey Club.
The GVHA will take another break this weekend for the Hockey Victoria senior country championships, with Echuca Moama’s sides all returning to action on its Sponsors Day on June 13.
Elsewhere in hockey, the Castlemaine side made up of Echuca Moama players in Hockey Central Victoria had another tough outing, as it was thrashed by Bendigo Senjuns 6-0 last Sunday.
The team will be back in action on June 14 against Sandhurst, looking to snap the five-game losing streak it has endured to open the season.
