The Bears were efficient when they went inside 50, and unfortunately, it cost us.
The boys came out with real desperation and attacked the footy all day.
Luke Charlton enjoyed his role and performed up forward, and Ari Glover was his usual consistent self.
Jai Park made the most of his opportunities up forward.
We feel like we can hold our heads high after a valiant effort, although we still carry some disappointment with another loss.
Final score: Blighty 7.12 (54) def by Tungamah 14.12 (96).
Goals: Jai Park 3, Luke Charlton 2, Isaac Brown, Brock Thomson.
Best: Darchi Clarke, Ari Glover, Jack Charlton, Dane Leyden, Harley Constable, Elijah Swiggs.
Reserves
Back on our home deck after a break and a couple of weeks on the road, and coming up against a persistently strong Tungamah side, we were set for a challenge.
Unfortunately, we found ourselves giving it back to them across our halfback line too often.
The game was mostly played in our defensive 50 for the first half.
Defensive pressure from Shannon Bond, Danyon Williams and crew limited the scoring shots.
The midfield structure was working a lot better around the ground, bolstered by Kyel Bain, before drifting loose, and coupled by the fleet-footed pairing of Billy Lawes and Ben Crossley.
This limited the Bears to one goal in the second half.
We would have loved to see some in our column, but all positives as we look to continue our improvement as a group into ball weekend next week and beyond.
Final score: Blighty 0.0 (0) def by Tungamah 5.16 (46).
Best: Billy Lawes, Kyel Bain, Frankie White, Danyon Williams, Ben Crossley.
Thirds
It was another tough day at the office for the thirds on Saturday, taking on top of the ladder Tungamah.
Our first quarter was quite competitive but, unfortunately, when we transitioned the footy into our forward 50 we just could not get the scores on the board.
Once Tungamah got the momentum of the game their way, they were very hard to stop.
Best on ground was the ever reliable captain Xander Strong, followed by Jake Harvey, Angus Henderson, Charlie Rennie, Nut Goodsell and Ash Heinz.
Final score: Blighty 1.4 (10) def by Tungamah 21.11 (137).
Goals: Mark Godfrey.
Best: Xander Strong, Jake Harvey, Angus Henderson, Charlie Rennie, Nut Goodsell, Ash Heinz.
Fourths
Blighty’s oval was in great condition and ready for a day of football and Blighty’s start was one of their best for the season.
Langa Fevaleaki kicked one goal, and Daniel Burn kicked two more.
Tom Clohesy and Ben Macdonald both had solid games.
Charlie Tremble, back from a couple of weeks off, was in super good form, moving around the field well.
Harlem Morgan began to use her body to contest for the ball, and Liam Gordon has really started to find his confidence. It’s great to see him winning the ball.
The Good Sports award went to Andrew Frost, who always tries his best, no matter what is happening out on the field.
Best on ground went to Daniel Burn, and the next award went to Degan Morgan.
Final score: Blighty 3.3 (21) def by Tungamah 9.8 (62).
Goals: Daniel Burn 2, Langa Fevaleaki.
Best: Deakin Kelly, Degan Morgan, Daniel Burn.
Fifths
Our junior Redeyes were back into it after a well-earned week off.
We welcomed Tungamah to our home ground, and we were excited for the challenge.
Early on, we found it challenging to get our hands on the ball.
Tungamah demonstrated their skills and movement on the ball, showing us they were our hardest challenge for the season.
After regrouping at quarter time, I was impressed with our endeavour linking up with each other and applying great pressure to the opposition, causing some turnovers for us.
We learned a lot from this game, and hopefully, we can implement this into our game going forward.
Final score: Not scored.
Awards: Nash, Bill, Lucas, Ollie, Olivia and Valentina.
