Cobram all but ends Moama’s season

Cobram kicked the first nine goals of the game, a run which wasn’t ended until halfway through the second quarter when Moama finally found its first major.

After trailing 37-1 at quarter-time, Moama conceded another four goals in the second period to be down by 59 at half-time, 10.6 (66) to 1.1 (7).

The Tigers eased off in the third, adding only two more majors to their tally as the Magpies kicked one to only lose the period 16-6, their best of the day.

But that would be immediately followed by Shannon Keam’s side feeling the full force of Cobram’s attack in the final quarter, as the host closed the game with eight majors to one behind for Moama.

The 2.2 (14) to 20.12 (132) loss for the Magpies means they have effectively been ruled out of finals contention with two matches to play.

Moama (7-9) is seventh and eight points adrift of Numurkah, which occupies the last finals spot in sixth.

The Blues have one game remaining as they have another bye to serve, which Moama would need them to lose while winning both of its final two matches to have a chance at overtaking.

The Magpies would also likely need to win those two matches — against Nathalia and Rumbalara — by substantial margins, given their percentage, the third-worst in the competition, is significantly lower than Numurkah’s.
