While the Timbercutters were again well-beaten by Tungamah in Picola District League football, they posted one of their better attacking totals in the past few seasons.
Mathoura’s 7.6 (48) outstripped anything it offered last campaign and trailed only its 58-point effort against Picola United earlier this year.
Tungamah posted 21.14 (140) to claim the game comfortably, but in a season based on incremental improvement, the Timbercutters seem to be heading in the right direction for the long term.
Jordy Priestley slotted three Mathoura goals, while Max Elder, Liam Brown, Reece Wissell and Kai Shiels also hit the target.
A tangible reflection of the Timbercutters’ improved results, Mathoura has a percentage of 22.35 this season, after posting a value in single digits in 2025.
That percentage is good enough to keep the side off the bottom, one of four clubs without a win through six games.
After a general bye this weekend, the Cutters’ next opponent will be Tocumwal (2-4).
The Bloods are sitting currently as the worst of the sides above the winless group.
Mathoura will be on home turf for the May 30 clash, hoping to continue to build as the season progresses.
Goals: Jordy Priestley 3, Max Elder, Liam Brown, Reece Wissell, Kai Shiels.
