The round five FV Bendigo Senior Mens League 2 clash will be held Saturday from 2pm.
The Wanderers are coming off a 2-all result away against Golden City on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Matt Crothers said the Deni side dominated the match with possession and shots on target, but couldn’t get the three points.
“We were very unlucky to not get the win.
“It was a very dominant performance, but we had a penalty that was missed, as well as multiple shots on target.
“They scored first, which was against the run of play.
“They got around me and put it into the goals.
“It was with their second shot of the half that they scored, whereas we had heaps of shots and hadn’t scored.
“We went into the half 1-nil down, then in the second half, we scored twice.
“From there, we continued dominating possession and shots, but their goalkeeper kept saving them.”
Despite the Wanderer’s stronghold on the match, a last-minute free-kick and equaliser prevented Deni from getting their first win of the season.
“In the last 30 seconds of the match, we had a handball given just outside our 18 yard box.
“We set the wall, but it was a brilliant free kick that was inch perfect into the top corner.
“I could get to everywhere else except there, and thought the wall had it covered.”
“Anyway, it was definitely a very impressive performance.”
Both of Deni’s goals came off the boot of Masen Brain.
Crothers is expecting another close match against the Strathfieldsaye Colts.
“We should have the same starting lineup, but potentially without me. We can’t find a referee, and I’m the only other qualified referee (with the club).
“Traditionally, the Colts have been pretty strong. Last year we lost 3-2 at Strathfieldsaye.
“If we can bring a similar performance to what we did at Golden City, it should hold us in good stead for this week.
“Having 11 on the field, plus a bench, at home is a big bonus, so I’m expecting a fairly competitive match.”
