The concept originated in April 2024, with the second event for each year since traditionally held in November.
It is a six team format of four players each, and throughout the weekend every one of the 24 players competes against each other.
The club is delighted with the response to the idea, with teams from Bendigo, Sunbury, Maryborough, Portland and Sutherlands hotel in South Australia continuing with their support of the competition.
Unfortunately the Portland side is unable to compete this time, but the breach has been filled by a team from Hamilton in Victoria, and we welcome their first foray with open arms.
Sutherlands hotel will be keen to emulate their feat from last April when they triumphed in the tournament, with the help of local nonagenarian Ian Dixon, who was “first up after a very long spell”, and acquitted himself with aplomb.
The first round of the tournament will commence tonight about 7.30pm, while the next two rounds will be from Saturday starting at 1pm.
The final two rounds will be played on Sunday from 9am.
There is prize money for the top three teams, and also some spoils for the top three individual players.
It’s always played with great spirit and it is a lot of fun catching up with the good friends we have made over the years.
I just hope that Josh Ireland lets me have at least one shot in our game.
