Lockington-Bamawm United has suffered a heavy loss in the Heathcote District Football League to Colbinabbin, as the Grasshoppers cruised to a 68-point win at Lockington Recreation Reserve.

In a match between two finals contenders, the Cats were coming off a bye and on a three-game winning streak, while Colbo was also in decent form having won two in a row.

The sides could barely be split during the first quarter, as LBU kicked two straight and the Grasshoppers found one major, although they did create three more scoring shots.

Colbo’s chance creation paid dividends in the second term as it suddenly booted seven goals while holding the Cats to only one, the visitors putting themselves in a commanding position at half-time, leading 8.7 (55) to 3.2 (20).

The Hoppers avalanche continued after the main break, with LBU going goalless during the third quarter as Colbo added another six majors to its total, securing the four points ahead of the final term by holding a 73-point lead.

The Cats did marginally win the fourth quarter with three goals to two, but it was only consolation, as they fell to a heavy 6.7 (43) to 16.15 (111) defeat.

LBU slipped to fifth on the ladder ahead of a trip to bottom-placed Elmore on Saturday — a game it will be expected to win — with Heathcote and Leitchville-Gunbower currently sitting above it on the ladder via percentage.
