Deniliquin runner Oliver Hall will represent NSW at the School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships next week, earning selection in the NSW PSSA 11‑years team after a standout season of results and commitment.

Oliver will contest the 11 years 3km event, following his impressive third‑place finish at the NSW PSSA State Championships in July.
He will also compete in the 1500 m relay.
Earlier in the season, Oliver claimed victories at both the Deniliquin and District and Riverina cross country carnivals, cementing his place among the state’s strongest junior distance runners.
The national championships will be held at the Sydney Equestrian Centre, the same venue and course used for the State Championships and a setting Oliver knows well.
The four‑day trip will include opening and closing ceremonies and an excursion to Sydney Zoo.
“I’m very excited,” Oliver said.
“Long‑distance is definitely my favourite event.”
Coach Sarah Young said Oliver’s preparation has been exceptional.
Since April, Young said he has trained with “focus and discipline”, and increased his workload after the state carnival to three sessions per week after school.
He also added the 5 km parkrun on Saturdays to build endurance.
Oliver’s program combines track work, hill sessions and longer aerobic runs.
Oliver’s mother Hayley Hall said his dedication has been remarkable.
“It’s been really good, he’s worked really hard,” she said.
Oliver’s rise has not been without setbacks.
As a nine year‑old in 2024, he won the NSW 2 km cross-country title, but a serious foot injury in 2025 interrupted his momentum.
He returned strongly to finish eighth at state level last year, and has continued to build from there.
Young said Oliver’s determination has been a defining factor.
She said he understands that metropolitan runners often have greater access to competitions and coaching, so he has made the most of every session available to him.
“His dedication over the past two months has been exceptional. I’m incredibly proud of his commitment and eagerness to improve,” Young said.
