The fire was reported at the side of the Cobb Highway near Hill Plain about 1.55am.
Firefighters arrived to find a white Holden Commodore, which is believed to have been left at the location for about a week, fully alight.
Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW, Deniliquin Rural Fire Service and Mathoura Rural Fire Service volunteers worked quickly to extinguish the fire.
Deniliquin FRNSW Acting Captain Les Booth said it is believed the car was deliberately set alight, and reported that no one was harmed in the incident.
Another car fire was also reported at Millears Rd near Wandook on Tuesday night at 9.46pm.
The incident was attended by Deniliquin RFS.
The matters are now being investigated by Murray River Police District.

Wood fire blaze
The importance of a working smoke alarm has been demonstrated this week, after a fire at an Ochtertyre St home in Deniliquin.
Alerted to a fire, the resident discovered a blaze had started in the wall behind a wood heater about 1.30am Sunday.
As Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW and Deniliquin Rural Fire Service were en route, the occupant used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before they could spread.
RFS District coordinator Gerard James said it is, “a timely reminder that smoke alarms do save lives.”
Deni FRNSW used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots before leaving the property.
