The growth reflects the university’s flexible course delivery model, which will be a central theme at this year’s open day on Sunday, August 9 from 9am to 2pm at the Shepparton campus on Fryers St.
Head of campus Laura Baker said students were increasingly seeking flexible pathways that combined academic study with practical industry experience.
“Students want to know that their degree will lead to meaningful career opportunities, so the open day is a great opportunity for future students to meet our staff and students and learn how they can gain valuable industry experience as part of their degree,” she said.
The event will feature a dedicated pathways hub showcasing La Trobe’s partnerships with GOTAFE and the University of Melbourne.
Jayde Couzens, a proud Noongar and Gunditjmara woman who navigated a supported pathway from school to vocational education and into a healthcare career, is just one of the students who have benefited from these pathways.
After not completing the VCE, Jayde progressed through ASHE, GOTAFE and GV Health before completing a bachelor of nursing at La Trobe, graduating in May and now completing her graduate year at GV Health as a registered nurse.
“I’ve always loved learning,” she said.
“Knowledge is power, and it give you the confidence to believe in yourself and take the next step.”
