The opportunity comes just two months after the former Deni Rams player was drafted to the Giants as a Category B rookie through the club’s NSW Academy Zone last year.
The Giants and Swans practice match will be played at 11am, with the match to feature six quarters of footy.
Shaw said he expects to line up on the wing and half forward flank throughout the contest.
‘‘I’ve had a good start to the year at training so it’s good to get a small taste of playing AFL level footy,’’ he said.
‘‘I have got my goal of playing senior footy this year and this will be a good opportunity for me to show what I can do in a game situation.
‘‘I always have training drills where I can show my capability, but game situations are where you want to play well and thrive. At this stage I am just focusing on what I can control and trying my hardest to open up a spot in the senior side for myself.’’
Shaw’s development is in good hands, with the 19 year-old working closely with Geelong three-time premiership winner and Norm Smith Medallist Steve Johnson.
Johnson, who finished his 293 game career — playing 253 games with Geelong from 2002 to 2015 and 40 with GWS from 2016 to 2017 — was signed as a line coach for the Giants after spending three years at the Swans in the same role.
‘‘He (Johnson) is one of the best small forwards to ever play AFL, so it’s been interesting to learn his thoughts and views on how to go about your footy,’’ Shaw said.
‘‘I’ve also been learning a lot from the likes of Toby Greene and Bobby Hill. I’ve been picking their brains and taking on board their knowledge of AFL footy.
‘‘Bobby and I are very similar players, so that has been quite helpful too.
‘‘I get along really well with Harry Perryman, who I am next to in the locker room. He is a country boy and has similar interests to mine. There are also a few other blokes here that love to go fishing and camping, so it’s been easy to settle in.’’
Shaw’s transition into the AFL system has also been helped by GWS senior coach Leon Cameron.
The former Ram said he and his fellow draftees have been welcomed with open arms by Cameron.
‘‘Leon’s been great. Myself and the other 2020 draftees actually went round to his house for tea the other night,’’ Shaw said.
‘‘We met his family and he really just wanted to check in to see how we are adjusting to life as an AFL player. He takes a little bit of a step back at training, where we work mainly with our line coaches, but he keeps an eye on all of us.’’
