Goulburn Valley Water is investing $4.38 million for vital sewer infrastructure upgrades, with initial works set to begin this month.
The upgrade of the existing pump station will feature new pumps and a modern switchboard to improve system performance and operational efficiency.
A new odour control facility, incorporating mechanical ventilation and activated carbon treatment, will also be installed to reduce impacts on nearby residents.
The works aim to provide the capacity and resilience required to support the continued growth across Kialla.
General manager planning and assets Regan Flanagan said the project reflected Goulburn Valley Water’s focus on delivering strong customer outcomes while planning for sustained population growth.
“Providing reliable wastewater services is fundamental to supporting healthy, growing communities,” Ms Flanagan said.
“As Shepparton’s southern areas continue to expand, it is critical that our infrastructure keeps pace. This project is about ensuring we can continue to deliver dependable services for our existing customers while creating the capacity needed for future development.”
The early stages will focus on low-impact activities within road reserves and near residential properties, where property access will be maintained wherever possible.
The continued growth highlights the need for long-term, future-ready solutions, with a new sewer trunk main running from Archer Rd into the Kialla and South Shepparton growth areas being a core component.
This pipeline will play a critical role in managing increased wastewater flows and supporting the long-term functionality of the network.
“Our planning has identified this as the most effective long-term solution to strengthen the network in this area,” Ms Flanagan said.
A mixture of underground and open evacuation works is planned, allowing crucial infrastructure works to be carried out while minimising disruptions where possible.
Kialla residents will be notified in advance if works are expected to cause disruptions.
The project will also be featured on Goulburn Valley Water’s digital engagement platform, Water Matters, providing the community with an opportunity to follow progress and stay informed as works continue.
