Trailing by just 10 points at three quarter time, the Redeyes were right in the hunt heading into the last.
However a dominant 11 goal spectacular from Jedd Wright helped Katamatite move to a 4-0 start in dominating fashion.
The Tiger coach kicked seven of the 12 goals in the final quarter, on their way to victory.
Other standout displays from the Tigers included another great game from Pat Horsburgh and Pat Riordan, with Jayson Bigg also continuing good form.
Brodie McDonald jagged another four goals, while Judd Barnes slotted three for Blighty.
Other quality Redeyes included Tanner Robertson, Matt O’Connor and Lachie MacDonald.
Final score, Katamatite 20.12 (132) to Blighty 7.5 (47).
Blighty playing-coach Jack Tyndall said there was plenty of positives to take out of the game despite the final margin between the two sides.
‘‘Obviously I’m disappointed with the last quarter but we were really good for the first three,’’ he said.
‘‘I don’t like to make excuses, but when you have late outs like Josh Peers and Dylan Maxwell, ankle injuries to Smarties (Jarrod Andrews) and Singo (Sam Singleton) in the first quarter, and have seven blokes playing their second game for the day, you’re generally going to struggle.
‘‘We knew that we would probably run out of legs with a few boys playing a full game in the thirds or reserves before the seniors game.
‘‘It was a pretty big positive to match it with a top side for the first three quarters.
‘‘Our first quarter was probably one of the best we’ve played for the year. Our skills were up and our pressure was just unreal.
‘‘After Singo was hurt the pressure dropped off a bit. He’s a barometer for pressure and just lifts his teammates up when he’s in the contest.
‘‘To Singo’s credit he came back on when he probably shouldn’t have and rested up forward. He doesn’t want to let the team down so he made sure he got himself back on the field.’’
The Redeyes reserves scored a much deserved seven point over the Tigers.
Blighty, led by coach Kyel Bain with seven goals, weren’t going to let this game slip after two narrow losses in a row, kicking 3.3 to 2.0 in the last quarter to pinch the win.
Final score, Blighty 10.6 (66) to Katamatite 9.5 (59).
Better players for the Redeyes were Luke, Blake and Jack Charlton, Leigh Culton and Matt Dudley.
