Reunion revellers
There were more than 100 Vietnam veterans and guests from across Australia in Deniliquin on the weekend for the 47th annual Riverina Vietnam Veterans Reunion.
The reunion memorial service was held on Saturday taking place from 4pm at the Cenotaph before dinner at the Deni RSL Club upstairs in the Dunlop room.
The dinner allowed for some official reunion activities including a 47th reunion cake cutting as well a chance for those in attendance to catch-up.
There was also a recovery barbecue lunch on the Sunday with visitors very appreciative of all the reunion events co-ordinated by members of the Deni RSL Sub-Branch.
The Pastoral Times attended Saturday night’s dinner, with photos to appear in this Friday’s edition.
Fire service honoured
More than 1150 years of combined service was recognised when NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers from across the Mid-Murray Zone gathered in Deniliquin on Saturday.
A total of 33 long service medals and nine life memberships were awarded to volunteers from brigades across the region, acknowledging decades of dedication to protecting local communities.
Some have been involved in firefighting for 50 and 60 years.
More on the award recipients will appear in a future edition.
Remembering Jessie
The Mayrung Village Committee Inc will host a special event on November 15, with a musical afternoon to honour a much-loved local identity, Jessie Beer, who passed on May 12, 2022.
Jessie was involved in most local organisations, often in an executive position.
These included Ladies Aid, Red Cross, Hospital Auxiliary and of course the Mayrung School where all of her six children attended primary school.
Jessie’s children have kindly donated a new piano to the Mayrung Hall, and this musical afternoon will be an opportunity to dedicate the piano in Jessie’s memory.
The entertainment will start from 2pm, and provided by Sing Australia, Delena Gaffney, the Filipino Singers from Wyoming Dairy, Beverly Rankin on piano and poetry by James Beer.
The program will conclude with afternoon tea.
