The feature event was the Australian National Circle Work Championships, which saw scores of rowdy fans line the sports arena to get a glimpse.
Drivers each had 60 seconds to put on a show for the crowd with the crowd response as important as car control.
This year’s competition was fierce with 37 drivers lining up.
Judges awarded points out of 10 for driving skills, level of control, drifting skills and the execution of circles and figure 8s and the response they drew from the crowd.
Victorian driver Leigh Horgan took out this year’s title, qualifying for the decider with scores of 73 in the first heat and 75 in the first final.
The Kotupna resident impressed the judges in his Holden WB to score 79 points in the final, with runner-up Zach Turner (Stanhope, Victoria) scoring 77 points in his Ford Falcon BA XR8.
Robert Welch, from Booroowa NSW, was third with 72 points in his Holden WB.
In other racing action Shane Vos from Kerrisdale, Victoria was the winner of the annual precision stopping Go to Wo competition.
The competition saw two utes race around the course at the same time and stop within a pre-determined space.
The person who stops the closest to the witch’s hat and completes the course fastest, free from infringements, is declared the winner.
In the final against Zach Turner, Vos managed to finish with an impressive time of 11.69 seconds in his Ford XR8 to defeat Turner who clocked in at 14.59 seconds.
Circlework winner Horgan finished third overall in the Go to Wo with the third quickest time in the shootout, finishing in 25.72 seconds.
The third and final car event was the Barrel Race, with Scott Fullford finishing on top.
The final between the Horsley, NSW resident and Bob Waldner of Lavington, NSW was an absolute thriller.
Fullford’s Ford Falcon AU completed the course in 29.88 seconds to edge out Waldner’s Datsun 1200, the runner-up finishing the course in 30.57 seconds.
In third place was Dale Jones (Grovedale, Victoria) who whipped around the course in his Holden VS in 32.25 seconds in the shootout.
