James took out the singles title in her age group on Sunday, and she was also one half of the team to win the women’s doubles title in their age group.
James also partnered with fellow Deniliquin player Ashley Button to contest the mixed doubles.
“We lost to a much higher ranked couple of players, but did play well, taking a game from our opposition,” James said.
Button also won a match in the division singles and got through to the next round.
Also competing in the senior competition on Sunday was Andrew Griffiths, who challenged himself in a higher grade this tournament.
“Andrew played in a higher division singles to gain experience, and while not winning a match I was pleased with how he played and enjoyed the stronger competition,” James said.
In the junior competition a day earlier, Justin Purtill and Chris Dixon made their tournament debuts.
James said they performed admirably.
“It was their first experience at a major tournament, and there were some exceptionally talented juniors present.
“It was a pretty full day with a lot to take in; familiarising themselves with how an event like this was run, how the draws worked, how tables were allocated, the process of filling in scoresheets and umpiring matches.
“There were 90 juniors entered in the event, so it was a very busy day.
“The boys took it in their stride and, undaunted by the strong opposition, managed to gain points in most of their games through concentration and effort.
“Some games were quite close and only inexperience led to their defeat in many cases.
“Justin managed to take a game from his opponent in one match, which was a great achievement.
“Chris came very close to doing the same with a high point lead at one stage in a game.
“With points as high as 9-11, 8-11 and 5-11 in many games, the boys should be very proud of how they performed.
“We are looking forward to taking the juniors, and seniors, to other events in the near future.”
