It was recognised on Saturday during the round 14 Picola League clash with Tocumwal.
Glowrey was a member of the reserves side which snared victory from the Bloods by 35 points at Deniliquin’s Memorial park.
Deni Rovers joint-secretary Daniel Mison and fellow Rovers reserves player paid tribute to their teammate and Deniliquin Rovers’ current president in a post-game presentation.
“John started playing footy at Wagga Tigers at about nine or 10 years old, before playing at Toora in Gippsland where he played his first reserves game at the age of 14,” Mison said.
“He still managed to sneak in a game last year during our bye, making his tally for Toora 170 games. He also coached there.”
It was late 2003 when Glowrey came to Deniliquin, starting his local playing career with the Deniliquin Rams in the Murray League in 2004. He co-coached the thirds at the Rams, and played fewer than 20 games.
He joined the Rovers a year later, which is where he was bestowed the “appropriate nickname” of ‘Plough’.
“It was 2005 that he ventured down to Roverland where he started to be known, as we all fondly know him today, as Plough.
“It’s a nickname that stuck after Jeff Fehring came up with it after he ploughed his way through players.”
Making it to 300 games from there was a hard slog, Mison explained.
“He missed most of the 2009 season after an ACL injury and then missed 2020 due to the COVID years, so for Plough to reach this milestone of 300 club games - 145 seniors and 155 reserves games - is an incredible achievement and one that should be celebrated and recognised.”
“John has played in the 2012 reserves premiership, has been a two-time reserves Best and Fairest recipient and has been president of the club since 2020, during some of our toughest periods.”
