After two impressive wins in the Road to Rajadamnern Series last year, Matthews was invited to feature for the first time with the Thailand-based Rajadamnern World Series on Anzac Day.
“I've been working towards this since pretty much the start of my professional career, and it's just been one step in front of the other (to get here),” Matthews said.
“It's pretty massive and a big deal for me.”
Matthews will battle Italian fighter Gennaro De Meo, at the Australian’s preferred weight limit of 154lbs.
The bout will take place at one of the sport's oldest and most well know arenas, the Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok, which hosts Muay Thai bouts seven days a week.
Matthews has been officially added to the RWS website as one of the promotion’s talent, and begins at the bottom of the rankings in the super welterweight division.
His fighter page officially lists his record as 2-0, counting only the Road to Rajadamnern bouts from last year, but Matthews has had around a dozen professional fights since his debut in 2022, suffering only a single defeat in March 2025.
His Thailand trip is self-funded and a one-off bout at this stage, but should he impress, further opportunities with the promotion are likely.
Matthews' debut bout is billed third from the top on the ‘RWS April Inferno: Petchmorakot vs Salimkhan’ card.
The entire show can be streamed with a free registration to combat sports platform DAZN, with the action scheduled to begin at 10.10pm on Saturday.
