Deniliquin will once again become a meeting point for mateship, memories and remembrance this weekend as Vietnam veterans from across Australia converge on town for the 47th annual Riverina Vietnam Veterans Reunion.

Organisers anticipate a similar crowd to last year’s reunion, when at least 130 veterans and guests from across the country attended the reunion in Deniliquin.

Official registrations will take place from 2pm today at the Deni RSL Club.

The annual reunion memorial service will take place 4pm tomorrow at the Cenotaph, and will include an address from Father Frederik Le Mesurier from Finley and a performance from the Deniliquin Sing Australia choir.

Saturday night will feature a dinner and dance at the RSL before a recovery barbecue lunch on the Sunday.

Most of the events are for veterans only, by invite, but Saturday morning’s memorial service is open to the general public.

One of the longest standing reunions of its kind, the Riverina Vietnam Veterans Reunion location normally rotates each year.

When this year’s selected town was unable to take on hosting duties, Deniliquin offered to be back-to-back hosts.

Next year’s reunion will be held in Gundagai, followed by Griffith in 2028, Leeton for the 50th anniversary year, and then back to Deniliquin in 2030.
