Women in service highlighted on Anzac Day

Two marches will be held in Yarrawonga/Mulwala with three services to commemorate Anzac Day.

This Saturday, commemorations across Australia and New Zealand will mark the 111th anniversary of the 1915 soldiers’ landing on the beaches of Gallipoli.

This year, commemorations will highlight the vital contributions and diverse roles of Australian women in military history, from the past to the present day.

Anzac Day recognises more than two million people who have served Australia in all conflicts, wars and peace operations since 1914.

It's also a time to remember the 103,000 Australians who lost their lives while serving.

This Saturday’s dawn service is at 6am at the Memorial Wall adjacent to Club Mulwala, followed by a free gunfire breakfast at 7am.

There will be four guest speakers, two from each of the area’s high schools, Yarrawonga College P-12 and Sacred Heart College.

There will be two marches; one from Hicks Butchers in Mulwala to the Cenotaph at the Mulwala Memorial adjacent to the Ski Club at 9am and followed by a service at 9.30am.

The other is from the old fire station in Piper St, Yarrawonga to the Cenotaph in Belmore St from 10.45 and followed by the service at 11am.

The guest speaker at both services is Lieutenant Robert Webb from Australian Army in Wodonga.
