The Murray Bushrangers responded to a difficult home defeat to the GWS Giants Academy with a rousing win against the Western Jets.
The Bushies led at every change of the round six Talent League girls fixture, with Shepparton United’s Leila Creevey among the goalscorers in the 7.10 (52) to 4.6 (30) triumph in Werribee.
Flanked by Dees teammates Lana Carroll and Stella Freeman alongside Swans’ star Eve Cook, Creevey and co’s 22-point victory carries the Bushies to a 3-2 record and sixth on the ladder ahead of another bye.
They play the Northern Territory next on May 24 at Highgate Reserve.
Meanwhile, the Bushranger boys’ hunt for a drought-breaking win has continued into another week.
A competitive first quarter that saw the Bushies trail by two points at the first break couldn’t be replicated from there, with the Western Jets booting 17 goals to five up to the final siren to seal an 85-point win.
Shepparton Bears’ Jack Mellington backed up a best-on-ground display the previous week against the Giants with a team-high two goals for the Bushies, who have mustered a draw from its first seven games to sit 17th.
They’ll be hoping for revived fortunes when they travel to Highgate Reserve to play the Calder Cannons in round 10.
