The Rams enjoyed a buzzing home round against Congupna last weekend.
There were several netball games that went down to the wire, including three wins and a draw.
On the football field, there were strong performances by the under-17s and under-14s teams.
The senior footballers had a more difficult time against Congupna, but were lifted by the special playing appearances of Ben and Willie Rioli.
Rams senior football coach John Fitzpatrick said the team knew it would be tough against the undefeated ladder-leaders, but highlighted a good third quarter showing.
“As expected, it was a challenge.
“There was a fair bit of excitement around the weekend with the Riolis.
“On the field, we were very ordinary in the first half and actually didn’t score a goal.
“In the third quarter we kicked seven goals having looked at a few things and changed up what we were doing.
“Over the whole game they were a very good side, but we learned a few things from them, which is what we came in to do.
“The Rioli boys also gave a few tips on things we could improve, which was great.
“Other than the result, I think we were pretty happy with the weekend, particularly for our development.”
This week, the Rams take on another intimidating opposition away against Cobram.
The Tigers are second on the ladder and the reigning premiers in the senior division, and lead the league in all the other football grades.
Fitzpatrick said the Rams are expecting stiff competition tomorrow, but the travelling sides will be looking to spring some upsets.
“It’ll probably be much the same as last week.
“They’ve got some pretty handy ex AFL/VFL players in (Jackson) Trengove and some good young local talent.
“We’ll work on doing what we do best. Hopefully, we can continue to develop our players and implement our game plan.”
This week’s game continues a tough stretch of games for the Rams, who in their next four fixtures play Cobram, Moama, Nathalia and Numurkah. All are teams with six wins and four losses for the season.
With two weeks until the league bye, Fitzpatrick said the Rams will continue to take down any side they play against.
“We’re always looking to win.
“We aim to develop the side and hope to match it with these sides because we know that if you play well enough on the day you can get the win.
“With this week, Moama next week and a few other similar ones coming up, we’ll set ourselves up to try to get one of these teams.”
