The Deniliquin Wanderers went down 5-2 to the Border Raiders on Saturday, but goalkeeper Matt Crothers said there was plenty to take from the performance.

“It was a pretty good game,” Crothers said.
“We felt confident going into the break.”
After a nil‑all first half, the Wanderers lifted in attack and matched the top‑of‑the‑table Raiders goal for goal until the closing stages.
“It was 2 -all with 20 minutes to go against the top side, so there’s lots to be positive about,” Crothers said.
“We probably just ran out of puff in the later stages of the game.”
The side created plenty of chances and defended strongly for most of the match.
“It was a good game overall, bar the final blow, we created lots of chances and were strong in defence the majority of the game.”
The Wanderers now turn their attention to Swan Hill, who sit second on the ladder and have been in formidable form.
“Swan Hill have been pretty strong the past few years.
“They had a 19-1 win against Golden City earlier in the season.”
Crothers said Deniliquin’s focus would be on maintaining defensive discipline and capitalising on opportunities.
“I think the focus is clear; defend well and take the opportunities when they present.
“We’re never out of the contest, and Swan Hill are a good side to play.”
Patrick Barry scored a double for Echuca-Moama in the fixture.
