The Shepparton side is currently enjoying a mesmeric unbeaten run stretching back to the start of March, with this purple patch having brought it within touching distance of ladder leader Malvern City.
The current pacesetter from Melbourne lost three successive games in the previous month, with the Suns’ victory over the Eastern Lions in week 17 having closed the gap at the top to a point.
However, the boys in navy blue’s title quest was put on hold after adverse weather conditions led to the surface at Keilor Park Reserve being rendered “unplayable” ahead of the planned June 20 clash.
This postponement meant that VPL 2 frontrunner Malvern was able to pull four points clear in the standings after a 2-0 victory away at Altona City the previous day put an end to a recent downturn in fortunes.
Confirming the news, Keilor Park issued a statement early on June 19 that all under-20, under-23 and senior men’s matches at its home ground would be called off heading into the weekend.
“Due to ground conditions, Saturday's U20, U23 and Senior Men’s matches have been postponed,” the club wrote.
“Our Sponsor’s Lunch will still go ahead as planned, and we look forward to welcoming everyone for a great afternoon at the club.
“We appreciate your understanding and will share match rescheduling details as soon as they’re confirmed.”
A statement from the Suns was released later that day as the club confirmed that the game would now be played at the beginning of August.
“Unfortunately, tomorrow’s fixture against Keilor Park has been postponed following a request from the home club due to heavy rainfall resulting in an unplayable pitch,” it said.
“The match has been rescheduled to the catch-up round on August 8.”
This means that the Suns’ next outing will be a home match against Moreland City on July 4.
The Coburg side has struggled during the 2026 campaign and currently resides at the base of the league ladder, having tallied 11 points this term.
The last time the two teams met came on March 21, with the Suns delivering one of the best performances of their season in the form of a 5-2 victory on the road at Campbell Reserve.
It was a particularly memorable day for Mangara Munguakonkhwa, who came away with the match ball after claiming a hat-trick, while Curtis Hughes also grabbed himself a brace en route to the three points.
